The Blue Hill Public Library will present a new exhibit, Mainescapes, by Ellsworth artist Martin Gallant during the month of February in the library’s Britton Gallery and Howard Room. The exhibit will feature paintings of Maine landscapes from the coast to the potato fields of Aroostook County.

Martin works primarily in acrylics and watercolors. He has drawn and painted throughout his life, while also working as a school counselor in Caribou, ME. Having recently retired from education, he says he now has the time to immerse himself in the joy of painting. According to Martin, “The Maine landscape is rugged, worn, and often awe-inspiring. This land reflects the character of many Mainers. Independent, stoic, proud, individualistic and “real” are qualities we share with the land. Being open every day to the fleeting glimpses this forested, wind- and sea-worn state offers is a visual joy.”

The show will be available for viewing during library hours subject to the Howard Room meeting schedule starting February 2nd.
